Seems like we always do a food topic here on Fridays. Today there just happens to be one that coincides with this date. You see, today is the anniversary of the day Clarence Birdseye started to sell prepackaged frozen food for the first time, in Springfield, Massachusetts. That’s right – Birdseye isn’t just a brand name by happenstance – the brand is named after the man who invented the commercial freezing process and perfected the process known as anhydrous freezing. I refuse to play the “25 Things You Don’t Know About Me” game but I’ll give you one. That one is that I was trained as a teacher. I know – pretty clear career path from high school English to digital media guru. Nevertheless, no matter what position I’ve held I’ve always felt that teaching was part of my job. While some argue that the “See One, Do One, Teach One” philosophy is a ridiculous oversimplification in business, I don’t. I think it’s an obligation. Continue reading →

I spoke today with someone who has a great love for and knowledge of hockey. While I share his love I’m afraid I’m way behind in the knowledge department despite my having been immersed in the game for many years. We were chatting about the uncertain times in which we live and how much time I spend working with companies trying to sort through where they are and how they’ll succeed despite the current circumstances. His response was to recall one of hockey’s most famous quotes.
