The title doesn’t refer to you guys, of course, unless you’re a tone-deaf marketer. You know the ones I mean. The folks who call during dinner despite the fact that you’re on every “do not call” list known to mankind. The idiots who tie up your fax machine with offers for last minute trips or insurance you don’t need. “Oh, he means spammers” you say. Not just them. Asking The Right Way
I’ve been at this blogging thing going on three years now. I know – you’d think I’d run out of things to say but there are an awful lot of random thoughts bouncing around my head. Besides, lots of folks are really helpful about suggesting topics when I feel as if I’m running out of ideas (and you should feel free to do so).
Hopefully because I’m interesting but maybe because I’ve been at it a while, some of the folks suggesting topics are paid to do so. That’s right – PR folks who want me to write about a book their client has written or some great new product they’ve released. I got three of these yesterday (a typical day) and what was great is that one of them actually asked the right way. Continue reading

Brickberries For Breakfast
I know it’s Friday and, therefore, I’m supposed to be doing a food theme. Something happened to me yesterday which is food-related in name only but I guess it will have to do because I want to write about it while it’s still fresh in my mind.
I use a Blackberry (that’s as foodie as we’re getting today) as my primary communications device when I leave the office. Yesterday, as I went into NYC for meetings, I updated an app (Facebook) and rebooted the device as usual. Done it many times and never an issue. Except yesterday, when it became a Deadberry. A Brickberry. A Blackberry that powered up but wouldn’t boot. What a day it became and in perspective, what a lesson. Continue reading
