This is the time of year when the ticks come out. For those of you who don’t live in the ‘burbs ticks are nasty little parasitic critters that transmit all kinds of sickness as they latch on to their host. The Mrs. and I spend a lot of time checking the dog and ourselves for ticks since we know lots of people, including our eldest daughter, who’ve had Lyme Disease, which is transmitted by ticks.

The Confidence Game

I remember asking, somewhere along the line, what skills one needed to get into the sales department, where everyone seemed to be better paid and on an expense account (this was quite a while ago).  The answer was something along the lines of “an unwavering belief that your <poop> doesn’t stink and that everyone loves you.”  That came to mind over the weekend on the golf course and reminded me of one of the most important principles in success in both business and golf. Nail It With A Shoe

I think we’ve all been in a situation where we didn’t have the right tool for the job.   Maybe you tried to hang a picture using a shoe to drive the nail rather than the hammer you wish you had.  Maybe you tried to do some delicate knife work using a 12 inch chef’s knife rather than the paring knife you needed. Whatever it was, you probably appreciated the need to use the right tool. Continue reading
