What Are We Doing

Today I’m raising a question for which I don’t really have an answer.  I guess it’s more of an observation and perhaps we can all figure out the answer together.

I’ve spent a good number of years in the sports business.  I love it because it’s a business about which people are passionate, both the folks who work in it and the fans who consume it.  But lately I’ve asked myself what we’re doing to those fans and I had a conversation the other day which really raised my level of concern. Sickness

I’m sick.  No, not in the way that admission made some of you think.  I have a cold.   Now, there’s nothing particularity interesting or unusual about that except that since leaving the corporate world 18 months ago, I haven’t had the pleasure of a sore throat, stuffy nose, and feeling generally crappy.  I’m sure that’s because I’m not as exposed – on trains, in the office, elevators – as I once was (better diet and more exercise hasn’t hurt either, I’m sure!). The Fever

Ever had something on your mind that won’t go away?  Ever been so obsessed with a person or a thing that you can’t sleep or eat or focus?  Then, my friend, you’ve got The Fever.  While sometimes people who have it become delusional or psychotic, I like to think of it as a healthy obsession and it is, in my mind, what you want your business or brand or product to generate.
