Not So Spry

Yesterday, I had one of those nasty experiences that teach us a lot about good business practices. The story I’m about to tell you doesn’t contain much in the way of news but it does serve to remind us all about a few areas of best practices.

I use Spry to host my web site and my company mail. I access my mail via Thunderbird, Gmail, or my Blackberry depending on where I am and on what computer.  When things became, as they say in the movies, “quiet…too quiet”, I dug a little deeper. Continue reading

We Win

If it’s a win-win situation

It’s always interested me when people talk about “win-win” deals. The reality is that most of the people I know mean “I get what I want and you don’t have to give up much more than you want to” when they use that term.  It strikes me that taken to an extreme, the notion of “I win, you win” got us to The Civil War, as the North ended slavery (win) and the South decided to go someplace where they could preserve it (win). Of course, the collective “we” lost. Continue reading

Holding Steady

One of my sporting addictions is golf, as those of you who’ve visited here before well know. This past weekend, I was watching The Players Championship Tiger was having a not very good round on Saturday and yet moved from the top 20 into the top 5 and wound up playing in the last group on Sunday (for you non-golfers, the leaders go out last).  He was holding steady while all the golfers around him crumbled and, by doing so, advanced his cause.
