Looking Past What You See

What’s among the hottest categories of gifts this holiday season? E-readers. Seems like everyone either has one, is giving one, or is getting one. I know of quite a few folks who are installing the Kindle software on their iPads to accomplish the same task. Hey – that’s pretty amazing – I just mentioned 2 hot items that didn’t exist a couple of years ago but now are everywhere.

Prime-Time Apps?

I’m not sure what to make of a new report out the other day from Flurry, a firm that tracks applications running under iOS, the iPhone’s operating system.  On the one hand, it reminded me of the power of aggregated numbers; on the other hand it contains a few comparisons I think might be sort of specious.  But as we do in matters of this sort, let me lay out a few things and you make up your own mind. Live TV Losing Younger Adults

When I was in broadcast television for a living, we used to talk about the “lean back” vs. the “lean forward” experience.  The assumption that we made was that sports viewers in particular and TV couch potatoes in general were definitely of the former ilk.  TV was for relaxing and not something one did actively (other than flipping through the remote, of course).

That thought came to mind, and that it might be wrong, as I read the new study from Morpace about video usage.  It may especially be true among younger folks, which in general signals the trend.  But here’s the info and let’s think about it. Continue reading
