Going Rogue

I’m a big fan of “24” and I”m kind of sad it’s going off the air after Jack is done wiping out the latest threat.  It’s interesting to me how over the years both the left and the right have seen Jack as a personification for the other side when in reality he’s kind of right down the middle – a guy who is trying to do what he believes is important to get a job done.  The ends justify the means in his mind, even if those means involve torture, violating constitutional rights, etc.

But we’re not here to have a political discussion of 24 although it will be a great college course some day.  Instead, I want to talk about what’s happening to Jack now – he’s lost his compass in my mind – as he kidnaps presidents and goes off the national security reservation in the interest of THE TRUTH coming out. Awards Shows

NASA Television 2009 Philo T. Farnsworth Prime...

I started my career in TV, home of the Emmys. Lots of folks I know won them and it’s great that they got recognized for how good they were at their jobs. Of course, anyone whose ever entered a competition like that will tell you there are an awful lot of politics involved but nevertheless, the shiny award looks great in your office.
I used to call on ad agencies, and that business is home of the Clios, Effies, and a bunch of others. the media buyers didn’t win them – usually I’d see them in a creative’s office or on some account person’s shelf. They too got recognized for being good and having the scratch to afford the entry fees. Continue reading

Right Here, Right Now

How are you feeling today? Is it the same as you felt yesterday or a week ago? I don’t just mean physically but also mentally. Did you have a good night’s sleep? Are you more awake as you read this than you were a couple of hours ago?
I’m asking because how we feel – our mental acuity, our mood, our aches and pains – effects how we interact with marketing. And that’s part of the problem. Continue reading
