I suspect any of us who ever tried to play rock music for a living were, at some point, in a cover band. Heck, a couple of my favorite bands – The Grateful Dead and The E Street Band – are just as well-known for some kick-ass cover versions of other people’s songs as they are for some of their original work. Forget It Now
I’ve been in meetings all day so this will be really brief but sometimes short really is sweet! I had breakfast this morning with a former colleague. Although we were in different departments of a large company, we often collaborated on things along with a third person. I always enjoyed her thinking on things – she was (and is) bright and energetic. The work was challenging, especially since it was in the early days of digital and the “right” answers weren’t very obvious (and still aren’t a lot of the time!).
This morning she asked me a question I couldn’t answer: why did the other colleague and I stop speaking to her? What triggered our silence? Honestly, I had no clue, but the question did remind me of a great lesson. Continue reading

That Smell
The Mrs. and I went out for dinner the other night and since it’s Foodie Friday I thought that could serve as our food-related jumping off point. It was an Indian restaurant, the latest branch of an excellent group. We’ve eaten in two of their other places in nearby towns and were kind of excited to try something only a few minutes’ drive away.
The food was excellent – generous portions that were well prepared. The service was good as well so you’re not going to get another customer service rant today. However, we probably won’t be eating there again and the reason why is instructive. Continue reading
