As you might have heard, The Masters gets underway today. Tiger Woods tees it up this afternoon, making his reappearance in professional golf since his little Thanksgiving turkey trot and subsequent unmasking. But this piece isn’t just about Tiger. It’s about you and your business. You see, Tiger had a bunch of people helping him to do all those horrible things to feed his addictions. Every junkie has them – people who buy alcoholics drinks, let junkies in their medicine cabinets, lend money to gamblers. They’re the enablers and in many ways they’re just as screwed up. Back At It
I finally played golf this weekend. If you’ve been following my tweets or taken note of the snide side comments in this space, you know I’ve not been happy about the layoff. In fact, the 90+ days of enforced time off (a layer of snow really does inhibit one’s ability to find a white golf ball as well as reduce how far that ball travels) did have a side benefit, one which I think might apply in some ways to business as well. Second Guessing
I hope you watched the USA/Canada hockey game last night. If you love the intensity of international sport played at the highest levels, it was the proverbial “must-see TV.” In my mind the only way the game could have been elevated to another level would have been had it been the medal round. But the preliminary round is where statements are made.
As someone who has watched a lot of hockey I can tell you that this was Stanley Cup playoff intensity and skill and it only is going to get better. Which is why I can’t understand why there is so much second guessing going on this morning and that provides some thoughts that are about both sport and business. Continue reading
