You just knew there would be some sort of post about golf this morning.  After all, PGA Championship, the season’s final major finished up yesterday and of course I watched almost every minute.  I took a few things away  from watching over the last four days.  It would be fun to write about Tiger‘s troubles (I always wanted to play like him and after watching him hitting into the trees, the sand, and the water, I think I can!) but I think I’ll save that post.  Instead, I want to write about a decision another golfer made that illustrates a great business point. And Now For Something Completely Different…

I woke up this morning and landed in the midst of a major. Yep, it’s time for The Open Championship and there’s nothing like turning on the tube at 5:30 and seeing the world’s best golfers looking like…well…ME out there as they struggle with wind, rain, and a very different sort of golf. It’s the world’s oldest major championship and while I know that many of you care not a whit about either golf or sport, I do and I’m driving. Of course, there’s also a business lesson in here too. The Masters Lesson

I’m sorry that I’ve not posted until late today although frankly I could have written this immediately after the conclusion of The Masters.  If you love sports at all and didn’t watch the final round, shame on you because you really missed one of the best, most compelling afternoons I can remember in any sport.  What struck me beyond that, however, was the huge difference between the man who has won 14 major championships and the kid who is still trying to win his first.  The former put on a great performance that ultimately proved to be too little too late.  The latter blew a lead and his chance to win and yet he taught the older guy a lesson.
