Being Up Front

Does anyone you know enjoy being lied to?  I suppose there are the harmless lies you hear such as “you look great today” when you really don’t or the benign praise heaped on a host’s tasteless food.  But I’m not thinking about those.  Instead, I’m thinking about the destructive lies told in business, particularly the ones that involve managing people.  Let me tell you what I mean. Ticks

This is the time of year when the ticks come out. For those of you who don’t live in the ‘burbs ticks are nasty little parasitic critters that transmit all kinds of sickness as they latch on to their host. The Mrs. and I spend a lot of time checking the dog and ourselves for ticks since we know lots of people, including our eldest daughter, who’ve had Lyme Disease, which is transmitted by ticks.

What’s the Diagnosis?

I was having breakfast with a friend last week and we were talking about some of the things I do as a consultant.  He was listening attentively as I rambled on about the various things I do for my clients in many different areas.   When I took a breath, he said to me “at your core, you’re a diagnostician.  You can call it a consultant, but in reality you are a business doctor, performing diagnoses.  Just as a kidney guy specializes in one area but knows about the rest, you do that with digital media but you need to know about the rest as well because like a kidney, it’s all connected.” Continue reading
