Where Ya Been?

Those of you who subscribe to this blog feed may have noticed a rare period of quiet over the last couple of days.  Yes, I took a little bit of battery recharge time and didn’t post.  As it turned out, the lack of connectivity (I don’t travel with a wireless hot spot) and focus on things other than business (I try to practice what I preach) for a bit caused the gap.  But I’m back now.  Miss me?

I was away with the golf group about which I’ve written before.  As they do each year, everyone’s thoughts turned to the following year’s trip.  I thought we might try something different next year and rent a house rather than a series of condos.  So I was happy to see an email this morning from one of the agencies I’ve used before to rent a place.  Let’s plan next year with this year’s concerns fresh in our minds! Weakened Warrior

Most of what shows up in our snail mail box is junk, bills, or magazines. However, once in a while something shows up which just compels me to share it. That happened the other day with the arrival of a “Rush Priority Express Letter.” It had to be important since it commanded the USPS to “Rush To Addressee” because it’s “Extremely Important.” Of course the colors of this missive are red, white and blue and there’s a picture of what appears to be an eagle (ornithology not a specialty here). The Shrinking Universe

I know I sometimes get a bit “out there” with some of these posts.  Today might be one of those but hopefully you find the tidbit I’m about to discuss as interesting as I do.

Those of you who are outside of the media business might not be aware that Nielsen, the ratings company, updates what are called “universe estimates” every year.  This is to reflect the growth in households and of the numbers of people who live in them.  Those ratings you see reported are percentages of a universe – a 10 rating means 10% of what’s being measured – homes, Men, Women 18-34 – was watching.  Percentages are constant; universes aren’t, and this is where it gets interesting.  Let’s see what you think.
