I’m sure you pay attention to one sort of social stream or another. Maybe it’s a Facebook news feed; maybe a list of friends or business contacts on Twitter. I do, and what’s interesting to me is that often the age differences between some of the folks I follow come to the fore in a not very subtile way. This happened the other day when the internet service went out in someone’s building and they wailed about not being able to get anything done. I’m paraphrasing here but there was a shout out to us oldsters asking “how the hell did you get anything done without technology.” Damn good question – thanks for asking. Continue reading

Face Masks
I woke up Friday morning with a cold. By Saturday it had taken root throughout my body and I had the classic chills (and a very low grade fever), no energy, a rattle in my chest and a head that felt as if it needed a sump pump. A very pleasant weekend indeed!
Since I stopped commuting on trains and riding in elevators every day I haven’t been sick at all. This isn’t a coincidence and I had been on a train, in an elevator, on the subway, and in a number of offices early last week. I’m sure sniffles abounded. As did a business point. Continue reading

That Smell
The Mrs. and I went out for dinner the other night and since it’s Foodie Friday I thought that could serve as our food-related jumping off point. It was an Indian restaurant, the latest branch of an excellent group. We’ve eaten in two of their other places in nearby towns and were kind of excited to try something only a few minutes’ drive away.
The food was excellent – generous portions that were well prepared. The service was good as well so you’re not going to get another customer service rant today. However, we probably won’t be eating there again and the reason why is instructive. Continue reading
