This Foodie Friday, I want to share something I discovered from my grandmother, who knew very little about cooking and even less about business.  Nevertheless, I came upon something the other day which is instructive in both areas.  We bought a GroupOn to have some videotapes transferred to DVD and are in the process of going through the old stuff to make sure that what we’re sending isn’t just hours of babies laying about (which a lot of it is, not surprisingly).  At one point during some family gathering, my grandmother is asked about making matzoh balls and how she did it.  The answer? Stasis

I have an Android phone and I have quite a few apps on it.  If you use apps on a smart phone, inevitably you get prompted that there are updates available.  Sometimes, these updates provide real functionality changes or fix a bug.  A lot of the time, I’m finding that the changes are very minor – a color change, the screen layout – and the update is more annoying than necessary.  It reminded me of a post I wrote way back in 2008 on the subject of leaving well enough alone and I want to touch on that again.  Given some of what’s been going on in the tech world of late, I think it bears repeating. Looking Past Preconceptions

Let’s play a little marketing game this morning.  I’ll throw out a series of facts and you put on your marketing hat and decide if the facts make you want to target this group.  The point I’m going to make is that the answers may surprise you, not because you will find them unbelievable but because I’m betting that you have some preconceptions which will skew your thinking.  As we’ve discussed before, I think that is a huge problem in business (and in life and political thought as well!).
