Monkey Mind

Monkey ;).

We were talking the other morning on the golf course about settling our minds.  One of the folks with whom I play will often stand over a shot for 20 seconds (I’m not exaggerating) before starting his swing.  I asked him, as we rode around, what was going through his mind.  He just grinned and shook his head and said “I don’t even know – it all comes so fast.”

I know exactly what he meant.  My friends have, from time to time, called me “Sybil” on the golf course after the book and movie about a woman who has multiple personalities – she hears lots of different voices in her head.  The reality is that both my playing partner and I have monkey minds and there’s the business lesson. Gas Station Coffee

New shield for the Merritt Parkway in Connecticut.

I get up really early to play golf on the weekend. I’m usually out of the house an hour or two before anyone else gets up and so I don’t bother to make a pot of coffee since it will only turn itself off before they can drink it (yes, we own a carafe but it never seems to taste as good when it’s held that way).
On the way to the golf course (where the coffee is awful) I sometimes stop to buy a cup on the parkway. In theory, this should be a great alternative – reasonable prices, a wide selection of Green Mountain coffees freshly brewed – but it’s not, and the business lesson lies in what they’re missing. There is so much going on – The U.S. Open, World Cup, Father’s Day – that it’s hard to know about which topic to write.  But since it’s Friday, I know the answer:  food!  There will be lots of cookouts this weekend – we’re going to a couple – and it’s interesting me to that I can see which hosts have lots of business savvy and which have less just from their menu.  Am I psychic?
