I get up really early to play golf on the weekend. I’m usually out of the house an hour or two before anyone else gets up and so I don’t bother to make a pot of coffee since it will only turn itself off before they can drink it (yes, we own a carafe but it never seems to taste as good when it’s held that way).
On the way to the golf course (where the coffee is awful) I sometimes stop to buy a cup on the parkway. In theory, this should be a great alternative – reasonable prices, a wide selection of Green Mountain coffees freshly brewed – but it’s not, and the business lesson lies in what they’re missing. There is so much going on – The U.S. Open, World Cup, Father’s Day – that it’s hard to know about which topic to write. But since it’s Friday, I know the answer: food! Lessons from The Midfield and The Back
A week in and I hope you’ve had some time to check out the World Cup. Aside from the constant droning of those horrible vuvuzelas, it’s been pretty good so far.
As I was watching a game, I had a couple of thoughts about what was going on the pitch and how it related to business. I know – only me, right? But at some point in almost every game you see the ball being passed back and forth without it being advanced. Generally this occurs in the defensive end or maybe in the defensive midfield.
