This will come as a shock to those of you who know me pretty well. I took Studio Art when I was in college. That’s right – the guy whose handwriting is indecipherable (no Catholic school education here, kids) tried to make pretty pictures (and failed miserably although I passed the course).
The reason I bring this up is that I did something way out of my comfort zone that actually helped me later in my business life (although who knew at the time). No, not because I could do a great job on the white-board (my diagrams are awful and that’s being generous). It helped because I got a look over the fence at real artists and here’s how it helped. It IS Up To You!
I’m really sad the some business people continue to operate with blinders on. Notice that I said “sad” and not “surprised” although I wish that were the case. I was taught at a pretty young age that ignorance is no excuse for bad behavior – if you do wrong and break a law, even unknowingly, the bottom line is that you broke the law. The case I’m going to point to isn’t a “law” per se – it’s more of a moral dilemma. But I’ll put it out there and let you tell me. Continue reading

The Big Screen
I’m sure you’ve noticed that many folks – maybe even you – spend a lot more time watching video and reading stuff on their computers than they used to. I know – I’m pretty observant. Some of what everyone seems to be watching is user-generated – weird YouTube videos of babies and dogs – some are the sort of thing you used to see more of on TV – music videos – and some actually is time-shifted TV – Hulu.
What’s been going on has only been the first step, in my opinion. What’s happening now is way more important and could bring about yet another round of media business changes. Continue reading
