Jury Duty

Scales of Justice

From time to time, we all get the notice that we’re to appear for jury duty.  Like many of you, I would postpone that appearance and then pray that when I was supposed to go, court would be canceled or my chair would be filled by other citizens with more time on their hands.  However, I got called in last week and actually ended up on a trial.  Obviously I can’t tell you anything about it. However, I do have a couple of observations that my civic duty has brought forward. Continue reading

Cookbooks

It’s Foodie Fun Friday for which I am grateful.  I’m going to give the deaths of Michael Jackson and Farrah a few days before I write about them, mostly because I have so many thoughts.  Today, we’ll do our usual Friday thing and talk about food a bit, trying to keep it on the light side, if that’s OK with you.

We own lots of cookbooks.  I did a rough count this morning and stopped at 200.  We’ve probably given away another 50 that we didn’t use much.   I know what you’re wondering – why would a guy who fancies himself a decent cook and often cooks without recipes own so many? Continue reading

Unfeelings MOMS

I read with great interest this piece on a new media buying and planning system developed by Microsoft and Interpublic.  The Media Operations Management System, or MOMS for short, is supposed to it would “re-invent” the way Interpublic agencies and clients plan and buy their media.  As we all know, I’m all in favor of using technology to make our lives easier.  However, I wonder if this is really an advance.
