When I hire people I’m usually paying attention to the time the candidate spent in each job.  While I accept the fact that companies and people don’t stay married for 8, 10, 20 years any more as they did when I started my career, it’s still a red flag to me to see someone with 3 jobs in 4 years with 3 different companies. It says as much to me about the company as it does about the candidate. Continue reading

Yakkity Yak

When our eldest daughter was a toddler, she had an amusing habit.  She would sit in her car seat chattering away, regaling us with stories and songs until she fell asleep. The amusing part was she would often fall asleep in the middle of a sentence or verse (some of my friends have the same habit now and I’m always afraid that they’ll spill whatever they’re holding…).  It was a monologue, something she was doing for her own benefit.  We’d hear her but not – she was just making noise until she fell asleep. Anyone who has spoken with me over the past month knows how I feel about winter. “Intense dislike” is a huge understatement. So I look forward to Groundhog Day as the first indicator as to when this frozen hell is going to end. I know it all derives from a pagan ritual, I know it may or may not be accurate, but PLEASE – it’s a glimmer of hope and the results are in. Continue reading
