I think I’ve mentioned my love of Mark Twain once or twice in this space previously. One of the topics upon which Twain commented was the weather. His most famous quote (which may not actually have been written by him) was that “Everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it.” Well, I’m not sure we can do much about the weather (we’ll save the climate change discussion for another day) but we can use it for a quick thought about business. Riders on the Storm

My friend Bryant and I were emailing back and forth the other day and we got on the topic (fairly quickly) of the economy and how the extended downturn is affecting everyone. There isn’t a business person I know who hasn’t seen a big change over the last 18 months, and I’m sure you and your business fall into that very large bucket.
As we went back and forth, Bryant laid his latest favorite quote on me, one from Mr. Gump, which struck me as something to which we all need pay attention and act accordingly. Continue reading

Six Degrees

...

6 degrees.  That’s what the thermometer is reading as I write this.  For my friends in Canada, that’s -14C.  I know that’s almost a balmy afternoon for you, but for this son of New York, it’s the coldest we’ve been in a few years.  The bitter cold that has been working its way east has arrived and I could be less happy only if they banned golf forever. Of course, I also find business lessons in the cold. Continue reading
