The recent events in Times Square brought to mind a line from the Dead and a thought about business.
NYC’s bacon was pretty much saved by street vendors. Like security cameras, they are constantly surveying the area near them. Unlike those cameras, they are able to interpret what they’re seeing and make immediate notes of what’s different or out-of-place, which is what happened over the weekend. Moments of Panic
It’s interesting how often you think you’re the only one with a problem only to find out that you’re not alone and, in fact, might be quite normal. A dear friend and I were talking the other day and he mentioned his 5am nightly(?) wake-up in a state of panic. He, like so many of my friends, is self-employed and he never knows exactly what he’s going to bill in the future. He does, however, have a pretty good idea about what he needs to bring in so he doesn’t lose his house, health care, and a meal or two every day. Staying On Task
There’s an eagle that lives in our yard. Every day, I see this bird sitting on a branch surveying our yard and the ones neighboring us. He’s not in the nest – that’s up higher in another tree. He’s sitting quite still just waiting. Nothing moves his from his task – the wind doesn’t distract him, rain doesn’t seem to deter him. He’s focused on one thing – his next meal.
