It’s interesting how often you think you’re the only one with a problem only to find out that you’re not alone and, in fact, might be quite normal. A dear friend and I were talking the other day and he mentioned his 5am nightly(?) wake-up in a state of panic. He, like so many of my friends, is self-employed and he never knows exactly what he’s going to bill in the future. He does, however, have a pretty good idea about what he needs to bring in so he doesn’t lose his house, health care, and a meal or two every day. Staying On Task
There’s an eagle that lives in our yard. Every day, I see this bird sitting on a branch surveying our yard and the ones neighboring us. He’s not in the nest – that’s up higher in another tree. He’s sitting quite still just waiting. Nothing moves his from his task – the wind doesn’t distract him, rain doesn’t seem to deter him. He’s focused on one thing – his next meal. Junkies and Enablers
As you might have heard, The Masters gets underway today. Tiger Woods tees it up this afternoon, making his reappearance in professional golf since his little Thanksgiving turkey trot and subsequent unmasking. But this piece isn’t just about Tiger. It’s about you and your business. You see, Tiger had a bunch of people helping him to do all those horrible things to feed his addictions. Every junkie has them – people who buy alcoholics drinks, let junkies in their medicine cabinets, lend money to gamblers. They’re the enablers and in many ways they’re just as screwed up.
