Learning Business From the Football Coach

They introduced the new football coach at the University of Michigan yesterday.  His name is Brady Hoke and he seems like a cross between Bo (and if you have to ask who that is, you need college football 101) and Chris Farley.  Based on the fact that he said he would have walked from San Diego to take the job and his history with the team, I think the Wolverines are headed back to glory.

During the news conference, Coach Hoke made an excellent business point even though I know that wasn’t his intention and I want to pass it on for your input. Continue reading

If you’re like most people you’ve been interviewed for a job at some point.  Maybe you’ve even done the interviewing.  It’s one of the most important things we do as managers and the ability to do interviews that successfully separate great candidates from merely good candidates is worth a lot to your employer.

There are a ton of stories this morning about how Bank of America is preparing to be “outed” by Wikileaks.  You can run your own search for it or click on this one for an overview.  Now, since we don’t do politics here I’m not going to riff on Wikileaks, freedom of the press, BofA, capitalism, or any of the inflammatory stuff that I’m not sure any of us are up for this early in the year.  I do, however, have a business thought about this situation and I’d like to share it with you.
