Friday at last, and with it some food-related thinking. There’s a new study out from the Harris folks which, in their words says that

Amateur chef shows abound and huge numbers watch, thinking – “Wow that looks easy. I could probably do that as well.” But how many Americans actually watch these programs? And just who are there favorite TV chefs?

I think the results give us a business thought as well.  But then again, don’t I always find those thoughts in weird places? Continue reading

The Kitchen

Kitchen at Yuba/Sutter Camp and Juvenile Hall,...

The end of another week and another food-related screed on Foodie Fun Friday.  We were out to dinner last evening at a Venezuelan beach food place I’ve written about before.  We happened to be seated in a place (it’s tiny) where I had an unobstructed view of the kitchen.  The space was minute and 4 cooks and a dishwasher were all scurrying around.  The occasional visit by a server would add to the clutter.  And it was hot – the air conditioning didn’t make it back to the kitchen – you could tell when you went to the register (near the kitchen) to pay.  The conditions weren’t great although the food was.  And that, of course, got me thinking about business. There is so much going on – The U.S. Open, World Cup, Father’s Day – that it’s hard to know about which topic to write.  But since it’s Friday, I know the answer:  food!  There will be lots of cookouts this weekend – we’re going to a couple – and it’s interesting me to that I can see which hosts have lots of business savvy and which have less just from their menu.  Am I psychic?
