Something Had To Give

I know it’s Friday and we usually do something food-related, but since we covered a food topic earlier this week, today it’s media.  There was an interesting piece earlier this week about the changing viewing habits of younger folks.  Not surprisingly, at least to me, is what the Nielsen study found and I want to share it with you today in case you missed it.  I suppose that the main point is that there are only 24 hours in a day, and even if you DVR or otherwise capture 96 hours worth of content in those 24 hours, you still have to find the time to watch it.  But here are the facts and you tell me what you think. Danny Dunn

One book I remember vividly from my childhood was called Danny Dunn and the Homework Machine.  It was published in 1958 and I think I read it in middle school several years later (I’m not THAT old!).  The book is about a kid who finds what was an early computer (probably filled a room and didn’t have the processing power of one of today’s cell phones, I’m sure).  He uses the computer to do his homework but finds out that to do so he needs to program it.  In order to program it, he needs to understand the subject matter which, kids, is the point.  It’s also today’s business thought. What Boxing Tells Us About Broadband

Growing up, I used to follow boxing.  It was pretty easy to be a fan – there weren’t a lot of weight classes, there was a single sanctioning body that mattered so there was only one champion in each weight class, and it was on free TV (although pay TV didn’t exist yet) every week. In short, it was simple and fan friendly.  A high-quality product was made available each week and promoters and TV networks did everything they could to get me to watch.
