When you go to a restaurant, they don’t charge you only for the cost of the ingredients used in preparing whatever it is you’re eating. In addition, you’re paying for the preparation of those ingredients, the people who serve you and see that you’re comfortable, the building itself, and a profit margin. What you’re really paying for is the value added by the kitchen staff to those ingredients and the rest of the staff in serving them. Continue reading →

One of the most discussed areas in the digital world is mobile. I’d put the fuss about it right up there with conversations about how Twitter is going to make money or if Facebook is going to crowdsource its Terms of Service.
The mobile conversations tend to center around when mobile ads, and mobile video especially, are going to take off. It’s always around the corner. Well, I think that time has come but maybe not for the reasons you expect. Continue reading →

I spoke today with someone who has a great love for and knowledge of hockey. While I share his love I’m afraid I’m way behind in the knowledge department despite my having been immersed in the game for many years. We were chatting about the uncertain times in which we live and how much time I spend working with companies trying to sort through where they are and how they’ll succeed despite the current circumstances. His response was to recall one of hockey’s most famous quotes.
