Getting Fitted

A friend of mine sent some of us in our golf group a photo of some clubs he is thinking of buying.  The clubs were displayed with a sale price and his caption was “better golf through MasterCard?”  It’s a common thought among golfers – I’ll just buy a better game.  As one who is constantly in search of that elusive improvement, I’ve stood in many a golf superstore and felt exactly the same way.Better golf through tech

As it turns out, the advice I gave him isn’t bad advice for business.  You see, I’ve worked with companies who thought they could buy their way to a better game too.  Let me share with you what I told my friend and I think you’ll see how it applies to the companies as well. Continue reading

If you’ve been following along in this space you know that one of my favorite artists is The Boss.  I’ve seen him many time over the last (gulp) forty years (honest – the first time was 1972) in venues ranging from a few thousand seats to very large stadia.   I’ve seen him with the E-Street Band, as a solo artist with another band, and even all by himself doing a one-man show.  The music is always great but there was something else that hit me about all of those shows that reminded me of a business point this morning. The Easy Way Out

Another week, another set of challenges to keep us engaged. Well, that’s one way to look at it anyway. Some of them are holdovers from last week or last month. Some of them might have come anew on the wings of the new week. Some of them might be lurking ominously in the shadows, waiting for the moment we think we’ve got things under control to show themselves.

When each of us is in the throes of a difficult problem, I suppose it’s natural to want a quick, easy solution. Or do we? Continue reading
