I finally got around to looking at Sunday’s paper and in the Times’ magazine I found this interview with Cornel West. Now, as you know we don’t do politics here so I have no comments in this space about most of what Dr. West had to say. However, there was one quote that I found to be relevant to those of us with a business focus and I’d like to share it with you. While Dr. West was referring to President Obama, I think what he had to say applies to any of us who are responsible for managing organizations and dealing with changing circumstance. You Want to Win? Get Away From Me!
Fascinating, scary article on a report from Nielsen about the relationship between innovation and the physical proximity of senior management. Anyone who has ever worked in a big company isn’t going to be shocked by the news, but it turns out that “companies that take a hands-off approach with product development incubation and also employ other innovation best practices, on average derive 650% more revenue from new products than companies that do not follow these practices ” as reported by Media Post.
