Spam Buddies

Everyone has different kinds of friends.  Work pals, sorority sisters, roommates, golf friends. Each plays a different role in our lives and some of the recent changes both in Facebook and Google+ reflect that – the notion of sharing different things with different audiences.

Lately I’ve found I have an entirely new class of friends:  spam buddies, and today’s topic is a cross between venting and asking you all how we might combat this.  I’m also of the opinion that it’s going to get worse based on the changes we’re seeing in Facebook, LinkedIn, and others.  But let’s see what you think. Catching The Truck

Almost a year ago, I wrote about the cats in our neighborhood and how they chase squirrels with no thought as to what they’re going to do once they catch it.  I had a similar thought this morning as I got yet another company-centric plea to “like us” or “follow us.”  Since part of what I do is to help companies understand, manage, and use social media to further their goals, I’m all for building up the engaged consumer base.  However, that leads to the inevitable question about what happens when the dog catches the mail truck:  once you’ve attracted fans and followers, what happens? The Ultimate Technology

Lots of folks in the tech space spend an awful lot of time on social media.  They think about it, design new products to enable it, figure out business plans to market using it, plot ways to make money off of it – it’s a big deal!  to a certain extent, I’m one of those folks, since a number of my clients are in the social space and even the ones that aren’t really invested in it want to know more.  That means that I think about it a lot as well and I want to share a thought I had about it that I think points everyone in the right direction.
