Monday Wondering

I’m not sure how you’re starting your week, but I’m beginning by checking out the latest from Adobe’s survey of  Digital Marketing Trends.  I know – what a fabulous way to start the week!  What’s interesting to me is not just what companies are planning to do in their digital marketing efforts but also what they have yet to do since those might be things with which they need a smart consultant’s help…

Thinking back a few years, studies such as these would often look at who was going to be making initial investments in digital.  There were always a lot of companies who were interested in it; a smaller number who were actively thinking about it; a subset of them were planning to do it, and finally, there was a small base of active users.  Not any more! Investing The Time

Yet another study on marketers‘ use of social media came out last week and I saw something in it I wanted to share. It’s encouraging in some ways that marketers seem to recognize that social media isn’t something that just their kids are using and that it has value as a channel. However one point made by the study shows that while the spirit may be willing, the actual flesh thrown against the social media effort is still pretty weak.  Let’s get your take. Continue reading

Your Next Gig

So here’s a question for you.  Does your next job exist?  I don’t mean is there an opening someplace.  I mean it literally – do you think the role itself exists?  It’s not as simple a question as one might think.  After all – the job I’m in now – consultant – has existed for a long time but one area of expertise in which I consult – digital media – has only been around for 15 years or so.  So let’s think about this for a second and what it means.
