Finally Friday, and with it comes our weekly food-related theme.  This one won’t be as pleasant as some but hopefully it gets you thinking (and eating) a little better about seafood specifically and all food in general.

Oceana is an organization founded to protect the oceans.  They issued a report on seafood fraud recently which I found to be eye-opening although, unfortunately, unsurprising.  I want to highlight one point and see if you agree with me that it leads to a bigger business point. Continue reading

The Label

I know you were hoping I’d write about the food at the Royal Wedding this morning but since my invitation got lost in the mail I have no basis upon which to comment. Not that I’ve ever let that stand in my way before. I do have experience with food shopping, however, and I read a lot of labels as I do so. Those labels – and the packages on which they reside – are today’s food thought and of course it ties into business – and just maybe your health – as well. Continue reading

Going Out To Eat

I follow a lot of chefs on Twitter. I’m not sure why, exactly. Like many Twitter users, what they have to say is sometimes wonderful and enlightening; other times it’s just the stupid banter they exchange with their peers. There is the odd recipe link or photo to some food porn picture they’ve taken but one thing that seems to be a constant is they tweet about going out to eat. You might find it odd that people who run kitchens and make food for a living would choose to spend their down-time on the other side of the pass-through but I don’t. In fact, I think it’s a great business point. Continue reading
