Continuing Education

When I worked around lawyers in some of my past business lives, there would always be days when they were totally unavailable.  The reason was something called “CLE”.  As I came to found out, the full term is MCLE – Minimum Continuing Legal Education and while the requirements vary by state bar association, in general lawyers need to take courses in everything from ethics (ahem) to professional responsiblity to changes in law in areas of specialty.

Some Great Advice

Over the weekend there was a minor brouhaha that emerged over AirBnB. For those of you who might have missed it, AirBnB is a hot start-up that lets you rent rooms in people’s homes as if they were hotels. The founders have decided that this would be a good time to cash out a little. There’s obviously nothing wrong with that – reaping the rewards is part of why we invest in our work. However, how they’ve chosen to go about it leaves a lot to be desired and that’s today’s thought. Continue reading

Less Is More

I attended the local tech meet-up last evening and the topic was being lean.  No, not how to lose weight unless you’re counting the weight of excessive costs.   Or as it said in the event description:

Lean and Agile are two related approaches that use startup mentality and an iterative approach to deliver results and new possibilities. We’ll take an overview of Lean, its opportunities and pitfalls and some broad approaches to adopt Lean thinking for you and your organization.
