A Little Something For The Effort

I came across a report of a study the other day which falls into the “someone spent money on that??” category.  No, it’s not some misuse of our tax dollars or a replication of Newton’s Laws.  It’s a study by Maritz Research concerning marketers’ use of Twitter.  Or maybe it’s lack of use.  In any event, eMarketer reported on this  and I thought you might enjoy a giggle.  We’re going to be dealing with Twitter but I’m pretty sure you’d get similar results studying Facebook or any other place where brands and consumers connect. Taking The Tablet

There is an excellent, thought-provoking article in the current edition of the Sports Business Journal about tablet computers.  The piece examines what effects the popularity of these devices have been across a number of sectors in the sports business.  Sponsor rights, media distribution, and on-field use are just a few of the areas in which tablets are having an impact.  Disruptive doesn’t begin to describe it.

One thing I did notice as the article ran through the issues (which I’ll discuss in a minute) is that the way in which many of the parties involved have tried to deal with this new round peg is to try to fit it in the same square holes as other things without much success.  Let me explain. Talk, Don’t Sell

A really interesting piece yesterday on Facebook pages and ads.  GigaOm reported on a study by Campalyst concerning user engagement on Facebook which you can find here.  We’ve talked a lot about how you and I wouldn’t have a conversation in the real world in which I am constantly selling you stuff and this research serves to confirm that it’s more effective if advertisers don’t conduct themselves online any differently.  In my mind, it points to one things that will make fan pages – or any other digital executions – successful is delivering great, engaging content.
