Vegetables (and some fruit) for sale on a stre...

Suppose you went to the supermarket today to buy some vegetables but when you went to pay you were told you had to buy soda as well.  The store manager (who you demanded to see, of course) calmly lets you know that the store doesn’t make enough margin on vegetable sales alone while they make a ton on soda so they’ve bundled them together.  It’s a financial decision, and the fact that you don’t really drink much soda isn’t their problem.  They won’t sell you one without the other.  Ridiculous?  Maybe for groceries.  But you’ve been doing this for years. I spoke this morning with a friend who is writing an article for a respected trade publication.   I know – “why is he talking to Keith,” you’re wondering, if it’s that respectable.  Thanks for that.  Anyway – his subject was streaming high definition video and he wanted to discuss my thinking on the technical issues.  It wasn’t a very long conversation because the technical issues shouldn’t be the subject of the discussion at this point.  Continue reading

Everybody’s an Expert?

Here is an interesting post from Mitch Joel of Twist Image to start the new year. It’s all about separating the wheat from the chaff in the new media strategist space. After all, what does one need to be an expert here in our digital playground? A Twitter account? A nice Facebook page? Mitch’s point is that almost anyone can set up shop and call themselves an expert but that not everyone who does so is even remotely qualified.  Continue reading
