A sound-powered telephone on the HMNZS Te Kaha...

Imagine your puppy escapes from the house. Kind of frightening once you realize it’s disappeared. It has no clue where it is and has almost no defenses with which to take care of itself. The Beat

The Beat

If you don’t know the joys of ska, you’re really missing out. I’ve been a fan since the late 1970’s and last night saw The English Beat again. The Beat are one of the original 2 Tone ska bands and although the band has changed over the years, it’s still led by Dave Wakeling and Everett Morton, their distinctive drummer. And amazingly enough, in the midst of 3 hours of dancing, I had a business thought! Continue reading →

Why I Won’t Be in Applebee’s Neighborhood

We went to lunch with my folks yesterday and made the mistake of patronizing the local Applebee’s.  This is what the chain says on their web site:

Applebee’s is the largest casual dining chain in the world, with locations throughout the U.S. and many countries worldwide. We take pride in having a friendly, welcoming, neighborhood environment for both our staff and guests that makes everyone enjoy their Applebee’s experience.

While I have no doubt they’re the largest, we “enjoyed” our Applebee’s experience about as much as we would a root canal. Continue reading →
