Age, Haste, and Waste

As I was searching for today’s topic, I found an article I had clipped a month ago and promptly forgot about.  I’m not sure if it’s an age-related thing but I think we’re all familiar with the expression “senior moment.”

Some of my friends have them (if I do, I must have forgotten) and they also seem to react a bit more slowly to questions as well.  That’s why I clipped the article, which comes from Scientific American and deals with a study on older folks and reaction times.  As it turns out, the fact that we take longer to make decisions as we age has nothing to do with impaired mental ability.  It also raises a business point.

The Holder

Great afternoon (and evening) of football yesterday and both games ended on last second field goal attempts. One was good; the other not so much – as if you weren’t watching live or are otherwise aware by now.

One kicker left the field overjoyed and the other hung his head, mirroring the feelings of their fans. Being a kicker is hard – you’re the guy who shoulders a lot of the blame (I’m sure Scott Norwood‘s name is still cursed in Buffalo) when there’s a last second loss even though you were off the field for 59 minutes of the game. Which of course reminds me of a huge business point to be taken away.

3 Reasons Companies Aren’t In Social (Yet…)

Let’s start the year with a quick report on a survey released over the holidays wich you might have missed (the study, not the holidays – hope you had great ones!).  It comes from InSites Consulting via eMarketer and the report begins with the understatement of the year (which at this point is pretty easy to be).  The topic is social media, something that as we enter 2012 is not a “what” but a “how” issue for most businesses.  But let’s start at the beginning.
