I was coming in from a meeting yesterday and noticed a bunch of bumblebees collecting nectar from the plant next to the garage. Not really an unusual occurrence except that we had 40 MPH winds here yesterday. Somehow, the bees were doing their best to complete their work despite the atrocious wind. They weren’t going to let things they couldn’t control get them off track. They adjusted and moved on.
I bring this up because I’ve had a few conversations in the last few days with friends and business friends who are really feeling the wind. Some are stuck in jobs they hate; others are looking for work; still others have been doing projects on a freelance basis trying to keep their bills paid. All of them know this wind can’t last forever but they’re really getting tired of fighting against it. They need the nectar but they also need a break.
I’m a “glass-half-full” kind of guy. It feels like Spring is coming, not Winter. I do believe things are going to get better although I subscribe to the “new normal” talk – it’s not going to be the way it was back in 2006. Things change. Sometimes we have to wait for the flowers to grow again. But we can’t quit.
I’ll bet you know people in this situation or maybe you’re one of them. Maybe it’s the job or maybe you’re physically suffering. Despair is a more dastardly enemy than the wind, guys. Someone once said that aerodynamically, bees shouldn’t be able to fly but they don’t know that and fly anyway. Screw the wind, screw aerodynamics. Up we go!
Who’s with me?
