The Trouble With 5 Year Plans

One of the annual fire drills in many businesses is the creation of THE FIVE YEAR PLAN. For my money, it’s one of the biggest wastes of executives’ time out there and since, as we all know, stuff rolls downhill, that loss of productivity extends to their staffs.
There was a release this morning from comScore which made me think of this. It’s their annual U.S. Digital Year in Review report and let me tell you why the rant about five year plans came to mind. Continue reading

I’m sick of attention whores.  They’re noise, and there’s way too much going on of substance to have to spend the time separating their chaff from all the important wheat out there.  Unfortunately, we’ve become a culture that rewards these clowns and this week provided yet another perfect case. Hype or Hope?

Once again this morning there is conflicting information about the value of social media:

Despite its popularity, socnet platforms – including Facebook, Twitter and the like – have failed to demonstrate prowess as marketing tools, and possibly never will, according to Knowledge Networks, which released the report, titled “How People Use Social Media.”
