I’m really sad the some business people continue to operate with blinders on. Notice that I said “sad” and not “surprised” although I wish that were the case. I was taught at a pretty young age that ignorance is no excuse for bad behavior – if you do wrong and break a law, even unknowingly, the bottom line is that you broke the law. Why You Do These Things?
A very long time ago, I had a teacher who taught a class I didn’t find particularly challenging. Like most lads of 11 or 12, I found other, generally disruptive ways to amuse myself (and often my classmates) in lieu of the lesson being taught. As an aside, once I became a teacher several years later, I didn’t find it all that amusing when some of my charges did similar things.
Inevitably, she would reel me back to Earth and ask me in a phrase that the whole class came to know and love “Keith, why you do these things?” No, English was not her first language but it was a language class anyway so not much English was spoken. I bring this up because I find myself asking the same question about something this morning and maybe you can help me answer. Continue reading

Handicapped Parking
Over the weekend I was reminded of one of my pet peeves. We were at the supermarket and as we were walking to the store a huge SUV pulls into the handicapped spot near the door. The 30-ish woman driving reached into the glove box and pulled out a handicapped tag which she hung on the mirror. The passenger, a man in his late 50’s-early 60’s hopped out of the door and walked briskly to the store. WTF? Continue reading
