Breakfast is a big meal here at Rancho Deluxe. Sometimes we have it more than once a day. So imagine our delight when we received a Magic Pancake Puff pan as a gift! No more plain old pancakes for us, no sir. We’ve got PUFFS! Well, actually, what we’ve got is smart marketing. You see, while the magic pancake puff pan seems as if it’s someone fabulous new invention, the reality is that it has been around for a very long time. It’s a traditional Danish pan called an Ebelskiver pan and the “magic” isn’t in the puffs but in the name. I mean, isn’t it more fun to think of Magic Puffs than some unpronounceable pancake from Denmark?
Not only do the “As Seen On TV” folks have the marketing down, they also priced it well by selling their version of this pan for $20 less than Williams-Sonoma although I’m sure there’s a difference in quality.
What are you selling? Boring old Ebelskivers or MAGIC PUFFS? We all need to be in the puff business, especially now. Excitement and magic are key differentiators and can make even a thing made out of cast-aluminum sound like it’s fun. Where is the magic in your product? Are you selling “delicious homemade treats that everyone will love” or a pan?
