There's just too much information out there for people to see about you, because contrary to what facebook would have you believe, of those 800 "friends" you have on facebook, how many of them are really your "friends"? Especially when it comes to minors, my job as a parent is to protect them, and in today's world, it's just getting harder & harder, with internet, cell phones, texting, etc. I miss the days when friends had to call the house phone to talk to my kids.
Now, I wanted to "hide" from you, but because email is a required field, you know who I am. Just can't get away from it. Big brother is watching.

Very true! And something I wish more employers knew, believed and acted upon! Another thing you can't teach is attitude with people. I inherited an employee who, no matter how much she strove to get everything done in a more or less correct and timely fashion, and how much she improved in her phone manners (I did have to teach her to say please and thank you!), and how much I worked with her, there was just no social grace, no ability to hear herself as others heard her (and in the hospitality business, that skill is a must). Of course, I have been lucky enough to run into several employers who did hire people who may not have had the specific book-learned qualifications, but had at least some of the "stuff you just can't teach". And it's a good thing because otherwise I would never have been hired for most of my jobs (a degree in French doesn't qualify you for much...)!

Well said.

Mad Men's latest installment covered this very well as young Campbell is bypassed for a promotion by the other guy who made his customers feel they need not worry, he was delivering what they wanted along with peace of mind.

On a related note did you see the new massive survey that concludes that most <17 yr olds believe lying and cheating is required to get ahead in life? yikes. This is 5x larger than 50 year old's in similar survey. Can you today if 5X more U.S. org leaders lied and cheated?!

Good luck to our children.

au contraire mon fraire!

While I do agree that fast is to food like mold is to bread, there are foods (i.e, chicken and gravy) that can be served up fast at the local grocery store and which are considered comfort food.

In the case of cliches in writing, maybe you should think of them as quick, comforting words. A form of universal language that provides comfort to its readers.

Also, in a world of "30 words or less", believe the use of cliches enables a writer to convey a thought in 3 words vs. an entire paragraph.

I use cliches often, epsecially in my blog titles but I always add a twist to them. My hope is that I will catch people off guard, asking why, and hopefully, reading more.

My dad had me read a digest version of the days news. After reading it I told him I didn't care about it because it was lacking in proper grammar and uninteresting in style - both sentence structure and visual style (bolding things that should not have been so highlighted and such). We got into a big argument about how I find it very difficult to separate content from how a piece is written. If someone doesn't care enough to put 5 minutes of though into editing, then why should I care about what he has to say?

Keith, this is so very true and brilliant. In fact, it kind of reminds me of a blog post I wrote about a week ago, which your readers can access by clicking...okay, just kidding!

Seriously, what kills me these days are the mega-Tweeters who follower-bait and then provide nothing more to them than a stream of other people's stuff. Whatever happened to disintermediating the middleman?

Those who can, do. Those who can't teach. Those who can't teach, re-tweet.

Post its are an extremely bad idea when it comes to Project Management. Project Managers take notes on little yellow stickers and place them somewhere on their desks, laptop, wall, etc...

At one point none of these post its will mean nothing anymore.
